Jon Jones Told Police He Was ‘Bothered’ By Drug-Testing Agents, Apologized for Profanity

According to an updated report from the Albuquerque Police Department, Jones admitted he was “bothered” by the arrival of agents from Drug Free Sport International, the new anti-doping partner of the UFC. Jones told APD in a phone conversation on April 6 that he did use profanity during the sample collection but he did not threaten to harm either of the agents. In an initial police report, Jones was accused of threatening DFSI employee Crystal Martinez and taking her phone. As a result, a summons was issued charging Jones with assault and interference with communications.

In the updated report, Jones admitted that he was “bothered a little because he had been hungover from the night before.”Jones also denied taking Martinez’s phone, but he did say he briefly picked up her device, mistakenly believing it was his. Jones also claims he apologized for using profanity during the collection process. However, Jones did say he would sue Martinez’s co-worker for bringing his girlfriend to his home, which the UFC champ considered to be a HIPAA violation.

According to Jones, he only got close to the agents to give a high five at the end of the sample collection. Jones was asked at the end of the session if he would like to give any statements to DFSI, and he pointed out that other people could be present at his residence.

“Tell everyone at headquarters not to send people to my home so early, because it could be a dangerous environment,” Jones said.

Jones also told APD that he believes the DFSI agent fabricated a story because she was upset at him for his use of profanity.

Meanwhile, a report from NBC News on Sunday incorrectly stated that Jones had been arrested. Although the report later stated that the summons doubled as Jones’ arrest and he had not been taken into custody, that did little to alleviate confusion regarding Jones’ situation. As it currently stands, Jones is expected to receive his summons in the mail. Jones took to social media to address the false report and the situation as a whole.

Jones’ statement is as follows:

I wanted to address some misinformation that has been circulating this morning . I woke up to false reports that I had been arrested. I have not been arrested. In fact, I am currently in Texas with my daughters at a volleyball tournament.

I must admit, it's disappointing to have to clarify these things again , but I understand that I may be an easy target given some of my past issues. it's important to set the record straight and make sure the truth is told.

I was recently visited by testers while I was celebrating a birthday and taking a nap. Upon waking up, I was caught off guard by the unprofessionalism and protocol by one of the testers which caused frustration leading me to use some profanity I regret. However, I want to emphasize that at no point did I threaten , get in anyone's face , raise my voice to anyone or engage in any form of assault.

It's unfortunate that false news has been spread without proper fact-checking. I want to assure you that I will vigorously defend myself against these baseless accusations. The truth is, the incident simply did not occur.
